My Core Understanding And Knowledge Of The Curriculum...

Introduction This reflection paper presents an overview of my core understanding and knowledge of the curriculum innovation planning as well as my overall learning from this course. As a group, we decided to explore Christine Sleeter as our critical theorist and we started developing a deep passion for her work in multiculturalism. Since, we all come from a higher education background and we understand the ongoing issues in our institutions related to multiculturalism, we decided to use multicultural curriculum based on Sleeter’s theory and design our curriculum innovation project. We used a fictional scenario to develop our story and create an online problem based learning multicultural curriculum that was mandatory for all college students entering in their mainstream education. My reflection paper focuses mainly on the following areas: a) curriculum innovation planning and implementation; b) why multicultural curriculum; c) feedback from our peer-review; d) and the overall learning g ained from this course. Abu Ghraib Prison Scandal Essay - 1141 Words

In â€Å"The Abu Ghraib Prison Scandal: Sources of Sadism,† Marianne Szegedy-Maszak informs the reader of the situation United States guards caused against Iraqi detainees. Under Bush’s presidency, United States soldiers brought physical abuse and humiliation upon the Abu Ghraib Prison. Szegedy-Maszak briefly analyzes the situation and compares the abuse to further scientific experiments in which test obedience. One of the experiments was the topic of another article titled, â€Å"The Stanford Prison Experiment,† written by Philip G. Zimbardo. In his work, Zimbardo discusses the experiment he held at Stanford University. A group of male students from the university were paid to participate in an experiment held in a mock prison. Half of the group†¦show more content†¦In his article â€Å"The Social Contract and Human Rights,† Grant effectively shares the importance of human rights to society. He believes even meager obedience to inadequate authori ty is unethical by stating, â€Å"When obedience is either enforced through conquest or slavery, or is simply the result of blind and unthinking compliance with the law, there is no free, intelligent, and conscious choice involved† (Grant 18). In situations like the Abu Ghraib Prison Scandal, Grant would confirm human rights given to the guards were lacking, which allowed them to conform with the social pressures of law enforcement. While testing obedience in his experiment, Zimbardo encountered a contrary thought. For his specific experiment, the subjects were assigned consent paperwork and monetary reward for participation. The right to discontinue one’s experience was given; however, specific instructions to perform the roles were not. After he distributed nearly zero guidelines to his experimental guards, Zimbardo discovered, â€Å"†¦the guards became more aggressive, prisoners became more passive† (Zimbardo 106). The test required only one individual t o commence the abuse for the other subjects to follow along. The editors of ABC News Primetime would agree with this, as a shocking story from a Texas McDonalds was shared during their â€Å"Basic Instinct 5: Milgram Experiment Re-visited† program. Evaluating Cloud Service Providers Samples †MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the Evaluating Cloud Service Providers. Answer: Introduction: The increasing demand for the cloud services has inspired technical giants to jump in the competitive cloud market which has the confused the consumers on to select any one of them. Hence, the designed report will assist the readers to select a cloud service provider from the compared service providers. Following is the list of most significant cloud service providers: Amazon Web services (AWS) Google App Engine Microsoft Azure IBM BlueMix Red Hat OpenShift Engine Yard Oracle Voice Cloud Foundry Long Jump AppFog Heroku CloudBees Caspio Adobe Creative Cloud VMware Rackspace Alibaba Cloud Pivotal web services PodSpace Multiple others The four most significant of them who offer PaaS (Platform-as-a-service), apart from the IBM Bluemix are AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google App Engine and pivotal web services. Further AWS is shortlisted for comparing with the IBM BlueMix. The reason for selection is laid on the fact that AWS is The biggest cloud service provider currently with over 47% of total public cloud market share. and Resources on AWS is easily available than others.. Aws Vs Ibm: (1100) The table shown below discusses the services offered by the Services offered BlueMix AWS AI- Artificial intelligence The discussed service provider offers a strong AI services. The cloud providers offer AI services but are comparatively weak than competitors. IoT- Internet of Things The considered cloud provider offers configured platform for the IoT services. The deemed cloud service providers offer a secure and broader range of scalability for the discussed service. SDA-Scalable Digital Application When compared with its competitors BlueMix has still a lot to do in the discussed service area. The deemed cloud provider is the leader in offering the SDA. Miscellaneous On, the other hand BlueMix has its focus on a lower scale. It focuses on the scholarly applications and low cost offering organisations. The pricing and targeted domain of the services are extensive for the AWS. However, they are mostly focused on the business perspective. Table 1: COMPARISON OF PAAS SERVICES (Source: Created by the Author) Navigation And Design: The design and navigation are of great vitality in attracting the consumers and keeping the deemed point in mind the BlueMix has focused on making the PaaS platform to be user-friendly. The sub-sectioning and ease of the AWS are appreciable. However, it is not as comfortable as the BlueMix. However, BlueMix does offer some navigational challenges relevant to the UI, but they are minor and can be ignored by the developers based on other options. Hence it can be stated that in the designing and navigation the latter is leading than the AWS cloud PaaS services. Creating And Deploying Hello World Application: It should be noted that XYZ stands for the options to be selected while XYZ/ABC stands for selecting the option ABC in the section XYZ. The coding is available on the official website of the discussed cloud providers. Bluemix: The following steps are involved in developing and deploying a hello world application in the IBM BlueMix PaaS service. Toolchain development: Signing in to the account Navigating to DevOps. Accessing the Create a toolchain/Develop a cloud Foundry app option. Assigning a name to the toolchain. New/Repository type for selecting Git repos and issues tracking where new name can be assigned to the repo. Create will offer an overview page of the toolchain. Webpage development: In the overview toolchain overview page Eclipse Orion Web IDE to open a Web IDE. Within the Web IDE, File/New/File. Rename the highlighted file as index.html. CODING. Manifest Development: Inside Web IDE File/New/File Rename the highlighted file as manifest.yml Coding Application Deployment: Inside Web IDE deploy. Post-deployment Open the application URL in the web browser. The website opens up in new window tab. Committing the changes to repo: Git, Commit, Sync will enable the users to commit the required changes to the repo. Aws: The following steps can enable the user to achieve the defined objective of deploying the application. Launching a Windows server Amazon EC2 instance: Signing in to the console. Inside navigation pane instances/instances. Browsing to and selecting the self-defined Windows server Instance in the list. Connect, Get Password, Browse/open and finally Decrypt password before selecting Download remote desktop file and opening it. Configuring the source content for deployment of the Windows Server Amazon EC2 Instance: Creating a web page: Creating a subfolder of name HelloWorldApp and coding. Followed by creating a file inside the subfolder by the name of index.html and insert the coding in the file. Developing a script to run the program: In the above-created subfolder another file named before-install.bat is created using text editor and batch script code is inserted. Adding an app specification file: In the discussed subfolder another file is created using the text editor and saved in the name of appspec.yml which is coded with the YAML code. Uploading of the Hello world application: In the discussed step, an Amazon-S3 bucket (CLI) is created for calling the mb command of the name codedeployement. It is created as create bucket/bucket name/region/create followed by some coding to authorise the access to the Amazon S3 Bucket along with the IAM user. Deployment of the application: A CLI is used to create a service role, and ARN is achieved, and create-deployment-group command and another is created by the name of Helloworld_Depgroup, and some coding is Following that the deployment of the application revision (console) is done and monitoring of the troubleshooting method is done before finally verifying the deployment. Updating and redeploying the application: In the discussed step the web page is modified and redeployed by making the coding changes to the index.html file. The redeployment is carried out in two steps first being the CLI and secondly on the Console. Difficulty Analysis: The level of difficulty is higher in the AWS platform because of its detailed process in achieving the objective of the deploying the Hello World application. However, it is significantly beneficial in the long-term because it will enable the user to understand the concept and make necessary changes if needed. On the other hand, the developers who are looking for the ease in deployment process should opt for the BlueMix because it offers ease in the process, however, lacks clarity of the measures that are taken in achieving the goals. In conclusion, it can be stated that the organisational and professional developers would be more comfortable with the BlueMix while the scholarly activists would be more satisfied with the AWS service. Ease Of Management: AWS is the global leader in the field of cloud services, and one of the reasons behind that is the large size of resources (space, memory and others) that it allows to the users. It also offers the option to enhance or reduce the size of the inventory as per the requirement of the users. Limited accessibility of managing the resources is also offered to the customers to make variations as per their desire. On the other hand, BlueMix offers extended accessibility to managing of resources which can be proved to be concerning from the security perspective. Additionally, it lacks way behind than the former when compared with the offered resource size, but it also offers the flexibility of managing the resources and an additional option of capacity planning which can assist the user in understanding their needs. Another notable factor for the resource allocation and management process is that the costing of the AWS is much higher than the BlueMix. Reflection: On the evaluation of both the services, it is evident that both the service providers offer some excellent services and are leading from each other in one sector or the other. However, the author of the paper would like to recommend the AWS as a PaaS service option. The reason for the selection is based on the flexibility of multiple languages and OS platforms along with colossal scalability benefits. Additionally, the vast domain of resource is a perk that cannot be avoided. The detailed process of deployment of applications is another positive attribute according to the author as it helps the users to enhance their skills. However, the cost is a factor that needs to be concerned before equipping the services which are justified in accordance with the offered services and benefits. Conclusion: The report can be emphasised to state that understanding the demand of the cloud services multiple organisations are jumping in the field to satisfy consumers need. This considerable competition has made the situation advantageous for the end-users, as they are getting the services that they need with enhanced capabilities. The comparison between the discussed service providers has enabled the author and readers capability to select the factors that need to be considered before equipping the cloud services. Additionally, an idea about the development and deployment process of the Hello World application has even offered a basic idea of the application development. Hence, in conclusion, it can be stated that the report has offered an idea of the cloud service providers and all of them offer some elite services and hence should be selected depending upon the requirement. Article Critique-Business Management Dynamics for Productivity

Question: Discuss about thArticle Critique-Business Management Dynamics for Productivity. Answer: Introduction The article seeks to identify the effects of the motivation techniques that the managers employ to ensure that the productivity of the organization is achieved and their application. In the abstract of the article, the author talks about efficiency being the main fact in the life of the people in any enterprise(Bruursema, Kari Kessler, Stacy R Spector, Paul E, 2011). The author says that the talents and potentials of people are required for the success of any organization. The author of this article discloses that the motivation techniques that are employed by the managers in an organization are determinants of their workers' talents, skills, and potentials. By using the motivation techniques, the success of the enterprise or organization will be witnessed. The research problem being addressed in this article seeks to explore the perceptions that managers have towards the manufacturing facilities required by the present workforce. The article is based on a research conducted by the researcher on a sample population of 229 individuals. Among the 229 personnel, 183 worked in three fabric and weaving facilities and the other 46 were the factory managers. The data has been collected using questionnaires and the application of employees scaling techniques within the company. Statistical package for social sciences was used to analyze the study for the effects of motivational techniques applied by managers to increase the productivity of employees. The significance level was tested and resolved that there was no normal variance for any variable. The author starts by saying that the world is changing at a rate such that it affects the organizations both positively and negatively. According to the authors, efficiency is one of the leading factors that affect the success of the enterprise in positive and negative ways. This brings about argument because the efficiency of the employees mostly affects the success of any organization positively. Efficiency brings about the success of the organization where it makes the use of opportunities from the changing environment(Nguyen, Mark, 2011). Efficiency is described as being the ability to ensure productivity of the enterprise. The enterprise should ensure high efficiency because of rising competition. According to the authors of this article, efficiency has no definition that is achieved by consensus, but this is wrong. This is because efficiency has been defined differently by different authors. Efficiency has been defined as elimination of existing problems, perceptions and providing the best living conditions for employees(Writer, Staff, 2016). Its the minimization of costs to enhance productivity by preserving the working environment and natural areas for workers. Effectiveness is achieved by preparation of raw materials for the production, chemicals to be used in the production process, shift patterns of employees and salaries paid as well as the cost of raw materials used in production process. Efficiency is the relationship between the acquired product and raw materials required to produce the product. Its the suitable utilization of resources, capital, raw materials and the know-how(Nguyen, Mark, 2011). It's a process where a successful and profitable production is achieved due to the investment started to make production. The importance is given in the year which the investment increased, and life's rising started. According to the authors of this article, efficiency is important to the employees, managers, enterprise and also the community. Efficiency in an organization is affected by different elements not only the employees as emphasized by the article. Equipment's, energy, business practices and also technology affects the efficiency of an enterprise. The enlargement of the business is due to the growth and development of the technical capacity and employees growth(Radoff, Jon, 2011). This means that the tasks and responsibilities of employees are promoted because they fulfill different tasks of the enterprise activities. Job enrichment means that the employees are motivated after they have undertaken their tasks by the management. This should not be the case because the employees should be motivated even when they have not accomplished some tasks. This gives them more encouragement to carry out their tasks most effectively and efficiently. The hours in which the business is supposed to work efficiently should be calculated according to the article; this brings about a contradiction in that the method used to calculate the hours may sometimes be biased. According to this article, many reasons emerge to bring about low efficiency in an enterprise. Unhealthy and unsafe working environment affects the employees whereby the rooms are not well ventilated, cleaned and warm hence leading to decrease in their efficiency. The relationships between the workers and the managers also matter(Schultz Schultz, Duane, 2010). If the relationship is unfavorable, then the employees will not be able to achieve the goals and targets of the organization or business. How the employees behave towards each other affects efficiency, if they do not relate well then there will be no peace because the working environment will not be suitable due to arguments among themselves. Employees need to be regularly motivated, if not they will lose the morale of working and hence low productivity to the business. Low payments to the employees reduce their efficiency because they expect to be paid amount of money according to the tasks done. When given high payments, the y are usually happy and feel encouraged to continue working for that organization. When the employees are allocated the jobs they are capable of doing, they feel satisfied and hence work diligently to ensure the success of the business. Workers feel so good while doing the tasks that they like most and hence if given jobs they cannot tackle will reduce efficiency(Schultz Schultz, Duane, 2010). According to this article, there are several ways in which the managers can ensure motivation to their workers. They should allow the workers to bring out their suggestions and share information with them and listen carefully what they have to say. The managers should relate to the employees in a friendly manner and always praise their hard work(Radoff, Jon, 2011). The managers should always respect their employees' ideas and be fair to all of them. They should be patient enough with the employees and also be careful while making promises to them. Even though this article has handled the ways to ensure motivation of workers, it has missed out some important points. Letting the employees lead is a most important way to motivate them, but this has not been included in this article. Allowing the employees regular breaks to refresh themselves also motivates them and helpful to their health. This is not mentioned in the article. Providing security at the workplace also motivates the employees to work without fear(Writer, Staff, 2016). Efficiency is the ability to increase productivity in an enterprise, but it can be defined differently and measured in the socio-economic systems(Writer, Staff, 2016). It's ensuring that the resources used in the production process are used in the best way possible. According to this article, motivation is the power that drives the people, and this is absolutely a true statement. According to the results of the study in this article, the people with higher education status are likely to be more motivated. This is not the case because, in any organization, all the employees are treated fairly by the management without any special favor to any employee. According to this article, there is gender discrimination whereby the females are more valued than male workers. This brings about a contradiction hence the statement is not true because in any workplace there should be no gender discrimination to ensure efficiency(Writer, Staff, 2016). This article talks about marital status in the results carried out; there is no discrimination according to marital status in any enterprise. Conclusion Overall, this article is straightforward in the beginning even though the introduction part is shallow and the article has missed out some important points on ways to increase the motivation of the employees. To have more people to read this article, it requires a new and more elaborated introduction. Once the reader has good examples of ways of motivating the employees and also the effects of motivation in increasing productivity of the enterprise, a good part of this article has already passed. Overall, this is a good and well-written article which bring about a relevant information to the managers and workers. This article when considered as a whole is very relevant and also convincing because it educates the managers on which motivation techniques to apply to ensure that there is high productivity in their organization(Writer, Staff, 2016). Only a few points need to be added on motivation techniques for the article to be complete. References Bakan I., 2011. rgtsel Stratejilerin Temeli. rgtsel Bagllk. Gazi Kitapevi, Ankara. The Mail is Arriving Way too Late, Watchdog Reports

The Mail is Arriving Way too Late, Watchdog Reports Even by the U.S. Postal Service’s (USPS) own recently lowered standards, mail delivery has become unacceptably slow, according to a federal inspector general. In fact, the number of letters being delivered late has increased by 48% in the 6 months since January 1, 2015, USPS Inspector General (IG) Dave Williams noted in a Management Alert sent to the Postal Service on August 13, 2015. In his investigation, IG Williams found that, â€Å"Mail was not being processed timely throughout the country.† Why Is the Mail Slower? On January 1, 2015, the Postal Service, in yet another attempt to save money it doesn’t have, lowered its own mail delivery service standards basically allowing mail to be delivered over a longer period of time than before. For example, where 2-day delivery of First-Class mail had been required before, 3-day delivery is now the acceptable standard. Or, â€Å"slow† is the new â€Å"normal.†Ã‚   [ Postal Services Losses by Year ] The move also paved the way for the Postal Service to go ahead with the closure of some 82 mail sorting and handling facilities across the nation, an action 50 U.S. Senators had recommended against. â€Å"The impacts on customer service and employees have been considerable,† Williams wrote of the lowered delivery standards and facility closures. The IG also noted that the delays had been â€Å"compounded† by two other factors: winter storms and employee scheduling issues. â€Å"Postal Service management stated a large number of winter storms disrupted service from January through March 2015, particularly for mail requiring air transportation,† wrote the IG. â€Å"Additionally, winter storms shut down highways on the East Coast and closed a contractor’s hub in Memphis, TN, delaying mail across the country.† As a result of the reduced delivery standards and facility closures, over 5,000 postal workers were assigned new job duties and were forced to change from working night to day shifts. This required staffing realignments and training of mail processing employees on new jobs, creating an inefficient workplace, according to the IG. How Slow is the Mail Now? IG Williams’ investigation showed that letters classified and paid for as 2-day mail took at least three days to arrive from 6% to 15% of the time from January to June in 2015, a service decline of almost 7% from the same period in 2014.   Five-day mail got even slower, arriving in six days or longer from 18% to 44% of the time for 38% service decline since 2014. Overall, during the first six months of 2015, 494 million pieces of mail failed to meet delivery time standards, a late delivery rate 48% higher than in 2014, investigators concluded. [ Door to Door Postal Services Might Be a Thing of the Past ] Remember when local First-Class letters were usually delivered the next day? Well, the Postal Service eliminated that service in January 2015 in preparation for its mail-handling facility closures. For all classes of mail, the new â€Å"relaxed† delivery standards have allowed the Postal Service one extra day to deliver as much as 50% of all mail traveling outside the Zip Code in which it was mailed, according to the IG’s report. Despite the predicted, but highly unlikely demise of â€Å"snail mail,† Postal Service statistics, show that the USPS handled 63.3 billion pieces of First-Class mail in 2014. Of course, that was 34.5 billion fewer pieces of mail than the 98.1 billion letters handled in 2005. In 2014, a focus group representing a cross-section of postal customer, told Postal Officials they would be willing to accept lowered delivery standards if it meant saving the Postal Service. Be careful what you ask for. What the Inspector General Recommended While noting that mail delivery times had improved recently, IG Williams warned that the level of service is still not where it was during the same period last year. To deal with the issue, IG Williams recommended the Postal Service put its plans for a second round of mail handling facility closures and consolidations on hold until it had corrected its staffing, training and transportation problems related to the lowered delivery standards. [ Back When You Could Mail a Baby ] Postal Service officials disagreed with the IG’s recommendation to put the facility closures on hold until delivery problems are solved. In May 2015, Postmaster General Megan J. Brennan put a temporary hold on further facility closures, but did not indicate when or under what conditions they would resume.

Racial Discrimination Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Racial Discrimination - Research Paper Example The enforcement of laws under Title VII is done by The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and does not protect age discrimination or disability discrimination that are dealt by the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Employers under the jurisdiction of Title VII include private sector companies whose commercial operations affect â€Å"interstate commerce† and who employ 15 or more employees, Federal, state, and local government employers, Unions, Employment agencies (making hiring referrals). The law permits discrimination on religion, sex, and national origin if there is a bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ) rationally essential for standard business operations. Organizations that are exempted from Title VII prohibitions and protections are religious organizations, scholastic institutions, or societies, employing persons of a particular religion; bona fide, tax-exempt private clubs; contracts that contain a Bona fi de occupational qualification necessary to perform the job; and aliens employed outside the United States. It is important to note that Title VII does not prohibit all discrimination. Employers are open to study factors such as experience; job knowledge, personality characteristics, provided those factors are interconnected to the job in question. Title VII remedies include reinstatement, back pay, damages and attorney's fees (Feldman, Fox & Morgado, PA). Backpay and similar retrospective support, presented to recipients of employer discrimination, is proposed to reimburse individuals for monetary losses straightforwardly traceable to discriminatory practices. Front pay is remuneration granted for lost compensation (opportunity cost) during the period between judgment and reinstatement. Similar to back pay, front pay fundamentally is the counterpart of lost incomes. A principal petitioner can recover attorney fees under Title VII, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Furthermore, main parties recover "costs" which include filing fees, transcripts, and other entries. Punitive damages exist in cases result from under Title VII (discrimination because of race, sex, national origin, and religion) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), but not the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA). These damages are created to reprimand past misconducts and discourage future wrongdoings, and the plaintiff must demonstrate that the employer acted with "malice" or in irresponsible neglect for federally protected legal rights. Elements necessary to establish a prima facie case of employment discrimination? The plaintiff must initially present a prima facie case of discrimination. A prima facie case is that minimum amount of evidence required to claim a legitimate question of discrimination (Air Force Alternative Dispute Resolution Program).
